I love to create my own stamps, to put on rubber all the ideas coming from my crazy head. But this past June I made some rubber stamps from “Star Wars” for my kids birthday party. Those are the only ones that aren’t mine. He loved his theme party. (i’ll show you in another post the invitation and goody bags). Anyway, I have a lot of materials and stamps (that I have lost several because of my bad organization skills) so I decided to put them away in boxes and also save pictures of what I have.

El novio de la calaca llegó…

My new lino. La calaca has a boyfriend. She was waiting for a gentleman…

DSC084802016-07-22 07.42.05

Have an amazing and very creative day!

Trying new things in printing

I have been printing with my kids so many times, I have even invited friends with their moms over to create and do a lot of printing. The kids love it and it’s a perfect way to keep them busy. Also, I have printed on wood. I had to make a stamp for a weeding (the design isn’t mine) it’s something I don’t do much, because I really don’t like work on commission; but I did it anyway. I liked the end result. I had to make the letters too. That was more challenging. The new thing was to print on wood, I have never done that. I love it!!

The last group waiting to be wrap and getting ready to be delivered.

The other one I’m going to show you, is a stamp with birds. My interpretation of birds of course. It’s a circular design and I really like it. I printed on my kids shirts. I used ink good for paper and fabric, and let me tell you…They are great!!. I have been washing the clothes I printed on, and the ink is perfect. The best thing about them. YOU DON’T HAVE TO IRON THE INK to be permanent.

I have washed this shirt to much and the colors still perfect.

and so far that’s all for today. I have a lot of finish work and in progress that I want to show you, so I hope to see you next time.

Have a wonderful and very creative day!

había una vez

“Once upon a time, there was this lady that worked like crazy making stamps and prints, but no matter how hard she worked or how much experience she had, she made tons of mistakes on her stamp making”… yeah… that’s me.

I have created lots of stamps. (I’m not as expert as others, but I’m not doing that bad) Stamp making it is very addicted for me and I also have found that it’s something easy, because I can make them while I’m waiting in the car for my kids to come out of the school, or while I’m watching T.V., etc. I like it because I don’t have the mess of the painting and brushes to clean up after. Anyway, I went with my niece to a printing and rubber stamp making demonstration on a little shop in La Mesa CA., We saw all of what they had to show us and later they let us practice with some rubber. I wanted to rush up with my little stamp because I wanted to see it printed. As usual I did a little flower and I added the words Thank You. I was aware that I had to put the words as if they were reflected on a mirror. The only think was, that I used paper to transfer it on the rubber. I realized my mistake after I printed. I was embarrassed. (because I had the little attitude in my head, even though I did not say it. You know what I’m talking about? This one: -Oh yes, I know this. Or, It’s a piece of cake type) So, I took my things as fast as I could, cleaned up and left. The guy that did the demo, stopped by while I was working, but he never mentioned my mistake. Or, maybe he not noticed it too. -Oh well.

I think after this, I need to put on my work place a sign with rules that I will need to check before I start carving, they will be called:

The Nora rules B4 carving with letters:  😉

1. If I draw/write direct on my rubber, the words go the opposite way (mirror way)

2. If I draw/write on paper. Write the normal way, then transfer.

So, after this little creative life lesson, I let you with my mistakes and other ones that were a success.

Here are a few post:Miss Briceño, Miss Guzman, Muchas Gracias, and here.

Have a very creative day!

Here a few, with some words.

in this one, you can see my double stamp of the little bug, just the one with the car, has the mistake.

In this one, the stamps with the words “hand”, “made” and “just, were made with my leftover of rubber blocks, so don’t trough your extra pieces, you can create always some new things.

In this stamp, I draw direct on the rubber the words “Muchas Gracias”.

Here are my mistakes. The one on top right it’s the most recent I was telling you about, and the one in the right bottom corner was made by my son direct on the rubber, and I did not spot the mistake.

and this last one, I draw again the design I made of the heart “Amor” so I will carve it later the correct way.

La calaca

I have a lot of unfinished work and projects that my head, time and body can not seem to decide when they will meet to finally finish ONE. On top of that, I keep adding new ones, so if I continue doing that I will never finish the ones that have been accumulating dust since 2000. I have been working in this lino for around 3 months. I think I finally finished it after slowly working on it. I have never done something inspired by Frida or the Day of the dead, since I’m mexican, I thought maybe I should have done something inspired by some things from my culture. Until now I just have two “calaveras” I have this and another one that will be the male version. Of course I had to put some of me in them. As I said, this one took me a while to finish it, but I’m finally done. (i think) Here are the pictures.

Keep creating and have an    A M A Z I N G   day!

A gift for christmas

One of my sisters in law loves quilting. She is very good. This year I was her secret santa for Christmas and as usual, I was wondering what to give her. In my case, I love when somebody gives me things for art because it’s something I enjoy doing. So thats what I did. I gave her a double side original handmade stamp and a piece of cotton fabric that I printed with her new stamp. (I also gave her a gift certificate for a store where they sell tons of fabrics). I think that way she can create her own original designs too. Here are some images.

Have an amazing day! ¡Qué tengas un día maravilloso!

Our Christmas postcard

My daughter wrote a letter to her friend that suddenly moved to Miami. She has been missing her a lot, so I told her I will find her friends new address. She was so happy. She wrote and also made a family drawing in her card. I loved the drawing. (She has been making family drawings since she was around 3 years old, she soon will be 9). I have been saving them as much as I can. Now in her illustrations she includes our dog,  Guapo that has been with us since June of 2012. I could not let the drawing go, so it end up becoming a new stamp, that also end up being our Christmas postcards for this holiday season and soon will be delivered.

finish… I think

I left this lino block unfinished a while ago, finally I’m done with it. The problem was that the weather was a bit cold, so it was harder to carve. I did put it several times on the microwave to make it soft. Here the first tests.
